Desert Fire #1 (Burning Palms), 1983
pigment print20 x 24 inches (sheet & mount)
[50.8 x 61 cm]edition of 50

Element/Principle selected:
The principle of contrast. The vibrant, fiery oranges and reds of the burning palms could sharply contrast with the dark, smoky background, creating a striking visual impact that draws the viewer's attention. This stark difference in colors intensifies the drama and intensity of the scene, making it a powerful and dynamic piece of art. It also suggests the peacefulness of the palms mixed with the chaos of the fire.

Outdoor Dining, Bonneville Salt Flats, 1992
Photographs, pigment print mounted to board, edition 23 of 25
50.8 x 61 cm. (20 x 24 in.)

Element/Principle selected: Balance.
The composition of the empty tables and chairs on the vast, white salt flats creates a harmonious balance between the man-made elements and the natural landscape. The symmetrical arrangement of the furniture against the expansive, unbroken horizon evokes a sense of tranquility and equilibrium, while the distant mountain range adds depth and perspective to the scene. This balance between the foreground and background elements feels both serene and surreal.
